INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED NAVAJO WEAVING, with Sarah Natani

N a v a j o W e a v i n g
F o u r - d a y w e e k e n d . The Navajo have a
unique way of dressing their loom so loom is
portable and weaving has no fringe! This
tapestry technique creates a firm weave
structure suitable for rugs, vests, carrying
bags, pillow covers, saddle blankets, or wall hangings.
Learn technique, legends and lore through Carol
Leigh's experiences both on Reservation and off,
with Sara Natani and Noel Bennett. Navajo
looms, forks, battens, spindles and yarns will be
available for purchase. Loom rental of $20.00
may be applied toward purchase price. Materials
fee: $15.00-$40.00.
Hillcreek Fiber Studio is located three miles south of Columbia, Missouri, in the Little Bonne Femme Creek valley, looking out on woods, pastures and a state park. We offer over 16 workshop topics throughout the year (several twice) in spinning, weaving (floor loom, Navajo, continuous strand on the triangle, square and rectangle looms, kilim and pile carpet, inkle, tablet), and natural dyeing. Bed and Breakfast at the Studio, and airport shuttle service from St. Louis and Kansas City to our front door, are available for workshop participants. This past fall, we again host Sarah Natani for an Advanced Navajo Weaving Workshop - her eleventh year here.
